Thekchhen Pema Chholing Monastery, located in the lap of Mount Sagarmatha, the highest peak in the world, is a Buddhist monastery (temple) and study center based on the Mahayana Buddhist tradition.
In various villages of Solududhakunda Municipality, monks from this monastery provide services for various rituals and emergency religious activities. Currently, the monastery has a total of 25 lamas, including students, who are engaged in the study and teaching of pure and uninterrupted Buddhist Mahayana tradition. Regular Buddhist classes for the general public are also conducted starting from 04:30 AM, enabling a significant number of town residents to receive Buddhist education.
Starting in 1993 A.D. and officially established in 1995 A.D., this monastery was formally registered in 2001 A.D. In 2026 A.D., it will celebrate its 25th anniversary since official registration, marking its silver jubilee with various programs and events.
In the upcoming days, under the campaign "Monasteries for Community Health," monasteries will continue to advance community health-related initiatives. This includes providing education on hygiene and sanitation in Salleri's prisons and various schools. Additionally, programs such as lectures by Buddhist scholars will be organized, aimed at civic cooperation with Solukhumbu Municipality's residents. There are plans to organize an international participation from 2025 onward, including events like the Mount Everest Marathon.
The monastery is initiating the construction of a community building named "Sherpa Culture and Art Center" in the near future. Alongside this, the construction of a Lumbini Garden aims to attract tourists and enhance the quality of life for residents in Salleri.
In this way, the monastery aims to establish itself as an integral part of society, actively engaging in various programs to serve the residents of Solukhumbu Municipality. Through the teachings of Lord Gautama Buddha, which aim to universally fulfill the Buddha's teachings and alleviate everyone from worldly suffering, the monastery seeks to contribute to this sacred work, expecting support and participation from everyone.
