Message from the Chairman

Thekchhen Pema Chholing Monastery, situated in Ward No. 5 of Salleri, Solududhkund Municipality, is a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and study center. Currently, 25 monks, along with students, actively engage in various religious activities and also impart teachings based on the unbroken and pure Buddhist tradition. Regular Buddhist classes are conducted here for the general public, contributing significantly to a large number of local residents receiving Buddhist education thus far.

At a time when everyone is realizing the urgent need for a monastery to organize Buddha Jayanti for the residents of Solududhakund, to perform various rituals based on Sherpa culture and religious values, the founders under the leadership of the founding president Chiring Dorjee Sherpajee, Mr. Chiring Tenzing Lamajee advised that they would donate the land required for the construction of the monastery and the founders received advice from the donors. As much as the donation that could be collected, the commitment of Machid Fund support was also received from New Zealand citizen Sir Edmund Hillary, and this monastery was built with the donations collected from house to house and the money received from the Machid Fund accordingly. During the construction of the monastery, His Holiness Thulsik Rimpoche himself came and established the foundation of the original building, and after the construction of the original building was completed, he stayed at the construction site for 3 consecutive days and performed prana pratishthan (planting) and named the monastery as Thekchen Pema Cholid Monastery. Thus B.S. This holy monastery was established in 2052 and registered as a social organization in the district administration in 2058.

Thus, in the past 29 years of establishment of this monastery, it has been established not only as a Buddhist monastery but also as an indispensable center of attraction for tourists and locals.

Realizing that Salleri Bazar has no significant attraction for tourists coming to this area, which is considered as the gateway for many tourists to go to the highest peak Everest, the current working committee continues the work being done by the monastery and envisages a roadmap to develop this monastery as a beautiful touristic and sacred religious destination.

Accordingly, the construction work of the attractive gate has already started and the restoration work is about to be completed. A community building with a modern restaurant, etc., a Lumbini garden with replicas of Mayadevi Temple and Ashoka Pillar in the birth place of Lord Gautama Buddha for tourists and common people has also been proposed. Since a large budget is needed to build all these, I sincerely invite all individuals, wards, citizens, local and government and non-government organizations to join hands in the holy concept of this monastery and accumulate immense merit by joining the city development.

Also, I kindly request you to actively participate in the various religious and social work activities conducted by this monastery located in the heart of Solukhumbu, and make this monastery more refined and develop this area as an attractive tourist destination.

Tenji Sherpa.
