Honoring Wisdom, Celebrating Heritage, Inspiring Generations

In collaboration with The Rubin Museum of Himalayan Arts, New York, USA, Thekchhen Pema Chholing Monastery will host the Himalayan Art Symposium 2025, an initiative to preserve, promote, and revive endangered traditional Himalayan arts. The symposium provides a platform for artists, scholars, and art enthusiasts to explore the rich artistic heritage of the Himalayan region.

Key Features:

  • “Himalayan Canvas Chronicles” – Production of Special short video in series featuring 15 prominent living Himalayan Heritage Artisans selected and invited by the organizer, showcasing their contributions and stories. The videos will be published through social media and other broadcasting means to honor the artists through different media.
  • “A documentary of an Adept on Himalayan Art: Au Leshi”: A documentary of Auleshi will be produced and unveiled during the event.
  • Youth Art Competition (May 11, 2025) – Renowned contemporary artist Mr. Umesh Shrestha and graduates from Kathmandu University School of Arts will coordinate a Youth Art Competition, encouraging young talents to engage with Himalayan art traditions.
  • Daily Art Exhibitions - Showcasing traditional Thangka paintings, mural painting, sculptures, Buddhist monastic crafts, Art from the Youth Art Competition.
  • Workshops & Interactive Sessions –Featuring works of Himalayan Artisans and issues related to Himalayan Art.
  • Guided Tours to the Monastery – Providing participants with an immersive cultural and artistic experience in the Monastery through tour guided by scholars from Kathmandu University school of Arts.

This seven-day event will highlight the importance of preserving traditional Himalayan art, fostering artistic exchanges, and inspiring the next generation of artists through educational programs.
